भारत सरकार ने लोकप्रिय गेमिंग एप पबजी समेत चीन के 118 मोबाईल एप्स पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया है। सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा का हवाला देते हुए इस प्रतिबंध को लागू किया। इससे पहले सरकार इसी आधार पर जून में 59 एप्स पर प्रतिबंध लगाया था जिनमे टिकटोक जैसा पोपुलर विडिओ एप भी शामिल था, जबकि जुलाई में 47 अन्य एप्स पर प्रतिबंध लगाया गया था। इस तरह अब तक कुल 224 एप्स पर सरकार द्वारा प्रतिबंध लगाया जा चुका है।
सरकार का कहना है कि ये एप लगातार यूजर्स के डेटा की चोरी कर रहे थे और उसे देश से बाहर स्थित सर्वर पर भेज रहे थे। मिनिस्ट्री ऑफ इलेक्ट्रानिक्स एण्ड आईटी ने आईटी ऐक्ट के सेक्शन 69ए के तहत अपनी शक्तियों का इस्तेमाल करते हुए इन मोबाईल एप्स पर प्रतिबंध लगाया है। सूत्रों के मुताबिक ये एप्स भारतीय संप्रभुता और सुरक्षा, राज्यों की सुरक्षा और पब्लिक ऑर्डर के लिए खतरा बन रहे थे।
